The simple differences between an atheist, secular humanist
critique of Islamists and the edl, bnp and ukip's critique of Islamists. Is that my
views come from rational, reasoned and critical thinking. The majority of my
criticism is for those countries which are run and governed by sharia law.
There is no choice than to grow up as anything other than a Muslim. What choice
is this? I would say the same to any
other religion or religious people who define their children as being of a
faith when the child still believes in fairy’s, Santa Claus and flying
elephants this is straight up brainwashing, indoctrination of the worst kind! .
All of this removes equality and human rights from societies governed by sharia
law .especially for minorities,, those of other faiths, liberal secular Muslim
communities,women,lgbt communities and for those who disbelieve in a god. we
here in the west sometimes forget our privilege to grow up in a relatively free
society and by relatively I mean its 2013 and look at how we as atheists are
still looked down upon and considered to have no values because they are not
instilled by a religious doctrine but one of freedom, curiosity and the
willingness to ask questions and to look at real evidence, as in history and
the scientific method. we in the west have many issues to solve ourselves,
sexism and misogyny being at the forefront but just imagine for one moment
growing up as a female, atheist and a lesbian in Saudi Arabia, if its hard in
the west to grow up like this, multiply that hardship a 1000 times and you will
still be hard pressed to truly imagine how difficult life can be for someone in
this situation! Empathy is my reasoning not hate! Also it’s suggested that we in Britain live
in a secular society, wrong! every time I hear a tory speak they suggest we are
a Christian country and live by its values and they would be right we have a
queen who sits as head of the church, bishops in the lords, we have many faith
schools and many advocates of religion sit in the houses of parliament basing
their reasoning on their religious convictions. This is not a secular society. I
fight (through reason) against that equally as much as Islamists, political Islam
or those who pretend to be moderate (Mo Ansar, Mehdi Hasan) but in reality
share the same intolerant beliefs as those who are considered radical, yet
these people are much more clever in their response and critiques of western
society but equally as dangerous and by dangerous I mean they have influence
because of their position in society as voices of reason and moderation on
matters concerning Islam. So all I am asking for as someone who considers
themselves very much of the left, an atheist, a secularist and most important
of all a humanist is that I have the right to criticise Islamist teachings and political Islam and support those around
the world who are being very much oppressed under Islamist governments and teachings. Well how do
edl,ukip,bnp,see this, very differently! They view things from a racist,
nationalistic and jingoistic viewpoint, spouting ignorance and hate and intolerance
and an irrational fear of people who are different by culture or by colour. Notice
how they sound similar to the Islamists. They believe in some sort of snow
white England based on Christian teachings and a life which I certainly would
never align to being British. what makes me proud to have grown up in this
country is the diversity of people I have been able to mix with and grow up
with and that comes from the uk welcoming immigrants from all over the world
and I support that fully unlike ukip,bnp,edl who want to stop 'foreigners’,muslims,polish
and anyone who is not Anglo Saxon British and Christian from being on our
shores because we are full up and over run. Let’s get something straight we are
90% white British in this country, wow, shock horror you say that can’t be
right yes it is! Outside of major cities it’s snowdrop central! All this fear
waged by the right as if we are being overrun or having our British sensibilities
lost are based on racism and nationalism and prejudice and ultimately fascism
and that is every bit as ugly as Islamist ideology. So these comparisons from
the apologetic left and accusations of racism and that secularists support and share values with right wing fascists have to stop. In a world which seems to have turned upside
down.;Some of those who I used to follow and maybe even listen to on the left are
now supporting Islamists who support the,niqab,sharia law and this crazy idea that
if you are white you cannot say anything other than about white people.FUCK OFF
I SAY!!! It’s a bit like saying black people cannot criticise the Nazis because
they was white folks and what do black people know about them? It’s got fuck
all do with the colour of someone’s skin but everything to do with the content
of their character and that is judged via the ideology they support. Islamists,
facists, imperialists and the apologetic left are all in the firing line for us
as secular humanists. We have been practically silenced throughout history in
terms of shaping policy and political movements, not any more! We will no longer
be silent our voices, our opinions, our values, our desire for global equality
and human rights under one law for all shall be heard. What makes this movement
stronger than any that has come before is our diversity. No other movement can
claim the diversity of people from all different backgrounds that resides
within our groups. We do not discriminate and call to ban nothing for adults
who have been allowed the freedom to choose,think and freely express their views.
Sadly throughout the world many people have had choice and freedom removed
through thousands of years of religious, spiritual and mythological dogma. Well
its 2013 and ignorance is a choice and we shall not sit quietly any more. You
shall hear our roar and feel our desire and passion for real change and the
advancement of humanity and a move away from the times of ignorance, lack of reason, lack of common sense and the denial of science. It’s
fucking crazy that whilst we find water on mars and discover more secrets of
the universe through science I’ve had to spend the last couple of hours writing
this piece. There are so many things we could be finding wonder from yet many
choose to kill and fight and oppress over something that does not exist and
never will exist. I hope what truly defines me as different and hopefully the
rest that describe ourselves as humanists is our belief that we are all one, all interconnected
through years of evolution and in reality so much more alike than we are
different. Human rights and equality for all especially women and children! The hope of an unbiased and secular education
around the world, teaching everyone all we can. Most importantly for me is how
we treat those who commit the most heinous and horrible crimes in society. We will execute no
body! Yes long sentences but not with the chance of never coming out we shall work
with them, try to understand what went wrong, and educate them. We are all
humans and how we treat those who seek to do us the most harm is utmost to the
principles of humanism and forging a world in which calling for revenge or
retaliation for crimes or atrocities becomes a thing of the past and the human feelings of compassion,
empathy and love for all, replaces those misguided feelings and actions of the
past. Maybe some would say this is a utopian vision that cannot be achieved, I would
say that’s because you really don’t know what it’s like to feel empathy and
compassion to others and maybe that’s more of a problem in society today!
